In order to prove its effectiveness in different parameters, our oil was the subject of an investigation (or clinical study), which ended in July 2020.

How was the study carried out?

Thirty-three female participants aged between 41 and 68 took part in this study. In addition to their age, these participants had visible wrinkles in the crow’s feet area. 

In this way, the results were more visible, clearer and more assertive, taking into account the objectives.

• The main objective of this clinical study is to evaluate in vivo the effectiveness of our cosmetic product (pine seed oil) in reducing the depth of wrinkles in the crow’s feet area. The measurement was made using PrimosPremium equipment;
• A secondary objective is to evaluate the moisturizing efficacy of this product in vivo. Skin capacitance was measured using the Corneometer® device;
• Another secondary objective is to evaluate the influence of the product on skin firmness, using the Cutometer® equipment;
• Finally, the third secondary objective is the evaluation of acceptability, tolerance, efficacy and purchase intention by the same participants.

The analysis conditions were always identical, regardless of the objectives: to compare the results 28 days after two daily applications of the product under investigation. Our Mediterranean pine seed oil was applied by the participants to clean facial skin, spreading it evenly and using circular movements.

For this purpose, two different forms of evaluation were considered: 

• The evaluation with specific equipment for the necessary measurements: all the study procedures were carried out by trained and experienced professionals, under controlled atmospheric conditions at all the analysis times; 
• The subjective evaluation of the product, responding to the last objective of this study: the participants answered various questions, considering their overall experience of the product.

In order for the results to be reliable and with a zero or negligible margin of failure, regular monitoring was carried out. This ensured correct compliance with the protocol.

What were the results of the clinical research?

The benefits of the research outweighed the risks, as the degree of effectiveness of the product was assessed and no serious adverse effects were observed.

In short, the investigational product (pine nut oil) proved to be effective in reducing the depth of wrinkles and increasing hydration 28 days after its application. 

With regard to the skin firmness parameter, the product proved to have no effect 28 days after its application.

Anti-wrinkle effectiveness

The depth of wrinkles decreased significantly to -61.49% in 80.00% of the participants, with an average decrease of -14.30 μm (-10.47%) among all participants.

Regarding the subjective opinion of the participants: 

• To the question: “28 days after applying the product, I consider my skin to have fewer wrinkles“, we recorded a total of 43% of the participants agreeing or totally agreeing;
• To the question: “28 days after applying the product, I feel that my skin has finer expression wrinkles“, a total of 57% of the participants totally agreed or agreed;
• To the question: “28 days after applying the product, I feel that my skin has smoothed out wrinkles“, 53% of the participants totally agreed or agreed with the statement;
• To the question: “28 days after applying the product, I consider that it has had an anti-wrinkle effect“, we observed a total of 47% of the participants totally agreeing or agreeing with this result.

Moisturizing effectiveness

Skin hydration increased significantly to 111.83% in 66.67% of participants, with an average increase of 7.83 A.U. (18.16%) among all participants.

Regarding the subjective opinion of the participants: 

• To the question: “28 days after applying the product, I consider my skin to be more hydrated“, we observed a total of 87% of the participants totally agreeing or agreeing;
• To the question: “28 days after applying the product, I consider that it has had a moisturizing effect“, we observed a total of 90% of the participants totally agreeing or agreeing with this result.

Firming effectiveness

The results obtained in this evaluation with the Cutometer® equipment show that, within 28 days of application, the product had no significant effect on the skin firmness parameter. 

Only small non-statistical differences were observed in this area. However, the participants’ feelings were extremely positive, indicating that this parameter would need to be analyzed for longer than 28 days to show clear results. Regarding the subjective opinion of the participants: 

• To the question: “28 days after applying the product, I consider my skin to be firmer“, we observed a total of 63% of the participants totally agreeing or agreeing;
• To the question: “28 days after applying the product, I think my skin is more elastic“, a total of 73% of the participants totally agreed or agreed.

Subjective evaluation

In addition to the various shares within each analysis carried out, we would like to highlight a few more interesting responses regarding the acceptability and intended future use of our Mediterranean Pine Seed Oil:

• To the question: “In general, how do you rate the test product?“, 27% of the participants answered “Very good” and 43% answered “Good”;
• To the question: “What is your opinion of the sensation on the skin after applying the product?“, 50% answered “Very good” and 37% answered “Good”;
• To the question: “28 days after applying the product, do you think the general appearance of your skin has improved?“, 94% answered in the affirmative, 17% of whom said that the general appearance of their skin had improved intensely;
• To the question: “Would you like to continue using the following product?“, 93% answered yes;
• To the question “Would you recommend the product to a friend?“, 94% answered yes, of which 37% said they would recommend it without any doubt.

In short, the investigational product (pine seed oil) proved to be effective in reducing the depth of wrinkles and increasing hydration 28 days after its application.
